The 2025 Brazilian ginger season has drawn to a flavorful close, with American Airlines Cargo facilitating the shipment of over 900 tonnes of fresh ginger to the United States. This year’s crop, sourced from the fertile regions of Espirito Santo and São Paulo, has been heralded for its exceptional quality, bold aroma, and nutrient-rich profile, underscoring Brazil’s growing influence in global ginger exports.

Delivered via American’s Boeing 787-8 and 777-200ER aircraft, the fresh ginger arrived at major U.S. hubs in Miami (MIA) and Los Angeles (LAX). These strategic locations serve as key gateways to inland markets, with seamless truck connections ensuring swift delivery to supermarkets and foodservice distributors across the country.

What sets Brazilian ginger apart is its distinctive blue-grey tinge and high gingerol content, giving it a spicy profile and potent health benefits. Referred to as “Blue Ginger,” this variety is more fibrous than its Asian counterparts and is particularly prized by both culinary professionals and wellness-focused consumers.

Lorena Sandoval, American Airlines Cargo Sales Director for Florida, Caribbean, and Latin America, commented, “This season’s harvest reflects both quality and sustainability. With many producers adopting eco-friendly farming practices, such as reduced pesticide use and soil health improvement, Brazilian ginger is aligning well with consumer demand for traceability and environmental responsibility.”

The ginger is packed in standard cartons on skids and transported without the need for refrigeration, simplifying handling while preserving the root’s natural potency. The vast majority of this ginger reaches supermarket shelves in its fresh, unprocessed form, ensuring maximum flavor and nutritional value.

Through its robust network and commitment to reliable, time-sensitive transport, American Airlines Cargo continues to support the global food supply chain and the success of Latin American agricultural exports.
