September 20, 2017: In the month August 2017, the imports received at Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas, São Paulo had increased by 31.37 percent compared to the same period in 2016. In total, 12,119 tonnes were imported last month, compared to 9,225 tonnes in August last year. 

The segments of stationery and publications, textile, mechanical metal, automotive, pharmaceutical and technology leverage the growth of cargo handling in August at the Cargo Terminal of Viracopos. This is the 8th consecutive month of high imports and exports, reinforcing the trend of increasing foreign trade through the airport. 

A total of 12,119 tonnes were received in August 2017 which is the highest volume recorded in a month in import since November 2014, where the volume stood at 15,033 tonnes. 

In the first eight months of 2017 there were 21.77 percent increase in imports in comparison to the same period last year, with a total of 79,599.52 tonnes. 

Among the imports the growth in paper and publishing (735 percent), textile (104 percent), metal-mechanical (75 percent), technology (15percent) and Pharma (11 percent) against the same period last year. 

In the export segment, it maintained the growth trend for the eighth consecutive month. In comparison to the same period last year, the increase was 7.26 percent, touching 5,285 tonnes against 4,927 of the same months in 2016. 

With a total of 40,470.53 tonnes, the accumulated increase in exports was 13.51 percent in the first eight months of 2017. 

Among the segments with the highest export were medical equipment and instruments (1,925 percent), furniture (28.987 percent), technology (203 percent), automotive (24 percent).  

There was also growth in international express consignments with a total of 3,431 tonnes movement from January to August 2017 which is a 6.5 percent growth.
