Jettainer guarantees sufficient number of ULDs during high season

JULY 29, 2015: Jettainer supports airlines in handling the high volume of luggage during the high season. If there is a lack of containers, luggage can sometimes be left behind. With an intelligent ULD management and ad hoc solutions for emergency cases, Jettainer secures that no luggage is missing at the holiday destination.

Summer time is travel time. Huge volumes of luggage require a high level of planning and flexibility at the airlines. Before luggage arrives at holiday destinations, it has to move along a complex logistics chain. It starts with a loop of paper from the airline, the so-called baggage tag. The luggage then goes through complex transportation systems of an airport and is loaded, transported and unloaded by the airline and their ground handling agents. Without a sufficient number of containers, fitting each specific aircraft type, luggage cannot be loaded.

Jettainer’s main business is managing containers and pallets worldwide. The company has a fleet of about 90,000 units, so-called unit load devices, at about 500 stations in the world. If there is a lack of ULDs, Jettainer offers airlines an immediate first-aid service, “JettLease”, which is especially important during high season. “The leasing product JettLease is for emergency cases at airlines, which are not yet serviced by Jettainer. Leasing ULDs gives airlines the necessary flexibility. With Jettainer as partner, no luggage will stay back at the airport. Airlines can also act more eco-friendly with the right choice of ULDs. Weighing from only 55 kilograms, so-called lightweight containers are much lighter than those made of aluminium. Using the optimised containers helps to reduce the weight of the aircraft, the consumption of kerosene and the CO2-emissions.
