Opening of Rhenus New Air Freight Gateway in Bangkok
Global logistics provider Rhenus Group has expanded its footprint in Southeast Asia with the official opening of a new air freight gateway in Bangkok. Strategically located at Suvarnabhumi Airport, the facility is set to enhance regional and global connectivity while driving sustainable solutions in air logistics.
With Thailand serving as one of Southeast Asia’s most critical aviation hubs, the new gateway will act as a pivotal transit point for inbound, outbound, and transshipment cargo across Intra-Asia, Europe West Bound, and North America trade routes. Covering 600 sqm of warehouse space and operating 24/7, the gateway also offers access to a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) storage facility linked directly to Rhenus’ existing warehouses in Bangkok and the Laem Chabang seaport.
The facility integrates advanced service offerings such as door-to-door pickups and deliveries, customs clearance, palletizing, relabeling, sorting, and consolidation. Its certifications — ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, AEO IATA, and TAFA — reflect the company’s emphasis on high security, fast processing, and compliance, particularly for sensitive and time-critical shipments.
“Bangkok is one of the world’s most connected airports, and our new gateway at Suvarnabhumi further strengthens our role and capabilities in one of the major regional logistics hubs in Southeast Asia,” said Serdar Onur, Head of Air Freight, Southeast Asia & Oceania, Rhenus Air & Ocean. “Backed by a team of 80+ air freight specialists and a 24/7 time-critical service unit, we are committed to delivering operational excellence, efficiency, and integrated end-to-end logistics solutions.”
The launch comes amid a broader expansion strategy in Thailand. Recently, Rhenus Thailand completed the Bangna Trad (KM19) warehouse expansion, adding 10,500 sqm of space and 15,000 pallet slots to support industries such as semiconductors, production machinery, and white goods. Looking ahead, the company plans to invest in a secure cargo room for high-value shipments and temperature-controlled facilities to serve the growing pharmaceutical sector.
A notable highlight of the new gateway is its focus on sustainability. In line with Rhenus Group’s global ESG commitments, Rhenus Thailand has deployed its first electric vehicle (EV) for daily air freight collections and deliveries, with plans to progressively expand the EV fleet.
“The addition of the EV is not just about adopting new technology – it is about reshaping the way logistics serves both business and society,” said Nitipon Tansakul, Regional Head of Sustainability, APAC, Rhenus Air & Ocean. “We are proud to provide a transport solution aligned with a sustainable future. This is just the beginning of reducing GHG emissions from fleet operations.”
Tim Burger, Regional Managing Director of Rhenus Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia, Air & Ocean, highlighted that the gateway and EV launch will strengthen the company’s positioning in high-growth sectors like healthcare, life sciences, and high-tech. “As airline frequencies increase, the gateway will offer seamless Intra-Asia flow and efficient global reach, helping customers navigate shifting trade dynamics with speed, cost efficiency, and resilience,” he said.
By combining expanded infrastructure with green initiatives, Rhenus is reinforcing its commitment to supporting both local and global customers with efficient, flexible, and sustainable logistics solutions in Southeast Asia.
