7 Air names Michael Mendez as new CEO to lead next growth phase

7 Air has announced the appointment of seasoned aviation executive Michael Mendez as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership shift aimed at driving strategic expansion and operational excellence for the carrier.

With more than four decades of aviation experience, Mendez brings to the role an extensive background in both operational leadership and regulatory compliance. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer and later CEO of 21 Air, where he played a key role in growing the airline’s operational footprint and achieving major regulatory milestones. Under his leadership, 21 Air was successfully certified by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), securing its Part 121 operating certificate in 2016.
Mendez’s expertise spans a wide spectrum of aviation operations, including Part 121 and Part 135 services, as well as oversight of certified maintenance and repair facilities. Over the course of his career, he has held multiple FAA-required 119 appointments, reflecting his broad qualifications and trusted leadership across technical and executive domains.
Widely recognized for his collaborative style and regulatory acumen, Mr. Mendez maintains a longstanding working relationship with the FAA Certificate Management Team and other key aviation authorities—an asset that is expected to support 7 Air’s efforts to scale while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.
