UPS revamps global leadership
UPS is reshaping its leadership and operating model following Kate Gutmann’s retirement, appointing new executives to strengthen its global operations and drive profitable growth.

UPS has announced that Kate Gutmann, Executive Vice President and President of International, Healthcare and Supply Chain Solutions, will retire for personal family reasons.
Gutmann is stepping down after nearly 37 years with UPS, during which she held a range of leadership roles and was recognised for her focus on customer service and operational performance.
Over the past six years, she has played a key role in strengthening UPS’s position in complex healthcare logistics, helping the company build its global healthcare capabilities.
Gutmann also led UPS’s international business through major shifts in US trade policy while maintaining strong operating margins across the three business units under her leadership.
Carol Tome, Chief Executive Officer, UPS, said, “Kate represents the very best of UPS. Throughout her career, she has championed our customers, strengthened our global capabilities, and delivered exceptional results. I am incredibly grateful for her leadership, wisdom, and partnership. While September 1 will be her final day in her current role, I am pleased that Kate will continue to serve as a strategic advisor through March 2027."

She will be succeeded by UPS veteran Wilfredo Ramos, who will take over as Executive Vice President and Chief International, Healthcare and Supply Chain Solutions Officer.
Ramos currently oversees UPS’s Asia Pacific and Brokerage businesses. With more than 20 years at the company, he has held senior leadership roles across multiple regions and business units, contributing to business growth, operational efficiency and customer-focused innovation.
Reshapes Its Global Operating Model
Following the successful completion of its Amazon volume reduction and network reconfiguration initiatives in June 2026, UPS is now turning its attention to accelerating profitable growth. As part of this next phase, the company will transition from an international-focused organisation to a truly global enterprise through a new operating model aimed at making better use of its worldwide network.
The new structure is designed to help UPS serve customers with greater consistency, agility and scale, while supporting its ongoing transformation from a small-package carrier into a provider of integrated logistics solutions.
Under the new model, UPS will standardise key operational processes across regions while retaining the flexibility to address the specific requirements of individual markets.
To lead the new structure, Nando Cesarone has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Global Operations Officer. He will oversee the company’s global air network and gateways, surface transportation, building and engineering operations, Intelligent Network of the Future initiatives, automotive operations and sustainability functions.
Matt Guffey has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief U.S. Domestic Officer, with responsibility for UPS’s U.S. operations, including Small Package, Roadie, Happy Returns, The UPS Stores and Mail Innovations.
UPS has also established a new position of Executive Vice President and Chief Global Commercial Strategy Officer, which will oversee global strategy, marketing and communications, product management and pricing. The company is currently conducting a search to fill the position.
