In a significant move to reduce emissions and promote sustainability in the aviation industry, Rhenus, a globally operating logistics service provider, has joined the Air France KLM Martinair Cargo Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme. This initiative enables Rhenus to invest in SAF, supporting the development and utilisation of this cleaner-burning fuel for its air freight shipments.

The Air France KLM Martinair Cargo SAF Programme allows companies to contribute to the utilisation and development of SAF, which is derived from renewable sources such as waste oils and agricultural residues. This voluntary investment in SAF supports Air France KLM Martinair Cargo's efforts to scale its production and usage, ultimately reducing emissions and promoting a more sustainable future for the aviation industry.

Rhenus' commitment to sustainability extends beyond its participation in the SAF Programme. The company offers a range of services designed to help customers reduce their emissions and advance their own sustainability goals. These services include the Emission Dashboard, which tracks CO2e emissions, and Transport Mode Optimisation, which enables customers to identify the most efficient transportation options for their shipments.

Rhenus has also developed RHEGREEN, a calculation tool that evaluates aircraft types, fuel consumption, and distances to identify the most efficient options for air freight shipments. This tool enables customers to lower their air freight emissions effectively and make more informed decisions about their transportation options.

"SAF is a cornerstone for lower emissions future of air freight, helping us meet environmental goals while maintaining the efficiency and reliability that our customers rely on. This partnership reflects our dedication to addressing the environmental challenges of aviation through forward-thinking solutions," stated Frank Swart, Head of Sustainable Air Freight Product Development at Rhenus Air & Ocean.

"As the aviation industry works to meet ambitious sustainability goals, collaborations like this with Rhenus are essential in driving the widespread adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel” said Robert Kunen, Vice President Europe at Air France KLM Martinair Cargo.

By partnering with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo and investing in SAF, Rhenus is demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and its dedication to providing innovative solutions that support the environment. This partnership is just one example of Rhenus' broader sustainability agenda, which is designed to reduce emissions and promote a more sustainable future for the logistics industry.
