Joost van Doesburg, Head of Cargo, Royal Schiphol Group
Royal Schiphol Group announced that its Head of Cargo Joost van Doesburg has decided to step down from the group as of 1 February 2025.
van Doesburg wrote on Linkedin, “I'm leaving! As of 1 February 2025, I will step down as Head of Cargo at the Royal Schiphol Group. On to a great new challenge.”
He was appointed in March 2023 in line with the wishes of Air Cargo Netherlands (ACN) to appoint a dedicated head of cargo that is firmly positioned in the Schiphol organisation.
“Since March 2023, he has been a member of Schiphol's leadership team and was responsible for Schiphol's cargo activities,” reads the release.
The release from the group also reads, “We respect his decision, but regret it for both him and Schiphol. Unjustified slanderous allegations were made against him and business criticism of Schiphol was made personal, resulting in media coverage. This has created an undesirable situation for him and we regret that. The Executive Team of Schiphol has always supported Joost. He is a driven professional who stood up for the interests of cargo at Schiphol.”
van Doesburg was under criticism for promoting the idea to ring-fence 2.5% of Schiphol's available take-off and landing slots for cargo. However, in July 2024 Dutch Supreme Court ruled that the government and airport’s plan to cut slots was illegal.
Patricia Vitalis, Executive Director Schiphol Operations, said, “Schiphol thanks Joost for the great results he and his teams have achieved. Under his leadership, the cargo Port Community system Cargonaut was completely renewed, cargo volumes increased again and a process was started to reposition cargo within the Schiphol organization, in which sustainability and quality play an important role.”
