HK Airport cargo handled up 10% in Sept on transshipments, exports

Hong Kong Airport handled 414,000 tonnes of cargo in September 2024 compared to 376,000 tonnes in September 2023, an increase of 10.2 percent.

"Cargo unloaded was up three percent at 109,000 tonnes and loaded (transshipments and exports) was 13 percent higher at 305,000 tonnes," says an official release.

Among key trading regions, cargo traffic to and from Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East increased most significantly in September, the release added.

Since April 2024, cargo handled has increased 14.3 percent to 2.46 million tonnes with loaded volume up 18.6 percent at 1.82 million tonnes.

For the past 12 months, cargo handled has increased 15.9 percent to 4.82 million with loaded volume zooming 22.3 percent to 3.54 million tonnes.

Cargo flight movements increased 8.8 percent in September 2024 to 6,455, 11.5 percent to 38,840 since April 2024 and 12.3 percent at 76,765 over the last 12 months.

"Over the first three quarters of the year, the airport handled 39 million passengers while flight movements increased to 267,035, representing 40.9 percent and 39 percent growth, respectively compared to the same period in 2023. Cargo volume rose by 15.7 percent year on year to more than 3.59 million tonnes."

On a 12-month rolling basis, passenger volume rose by a significant 63.5 percent year on year to 50.8 million while flight movements increased by 49.9 percent to 351,015, the release added.
