A new ‘Cargo Dashboard’ service will provide real-time displays of import cargo volumes and processes at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), marking another significant step in optimising cargo operations through digitisation, according to an official release by allivate. Right now this dashboard is available only for import cargo, not for export cargo.

allivate, a new joint venture founded in January 2024, is a collaboration between international airport operator Fraport and software company DAKOSY, with each holding a 50 percent stake.

This development is particularly noteworthy given that Frankfurt Airport, operated by Fraport, is the busiest airport in Europe for both cargo throughput and passenger volume.

“At peak times, that's around 10,000 shipments a day, which arrive on up to 90 planes. These are documented in the import with 30-time stamps from the arrival at the pre-airport to departure of the airport,” says Martina Schikorr, Managing Director at allivate. This illustrates the logistical sophistication and precision required in handling high volumes of air cargo.

In July 2024, the airport’s cargo throughput, which includes airfreight and airmail, grew by 5.0 percent year-on-year to 172,741 metric tonnes.

Frankfurt Airport's cargo throughput increased in July 2024 to 172,741 metric tonnes.

The dashboard aims to give participating companies in the cargo community a detailed view of current operating conditions. This data enables companies to realistically assess these conditions and make any necessary adjustments to their processes.

In addition to offering transparent and real-time information, the dashboard features a comprehensive overview of cargo operations. It includes detailed insights into the distribution of cargo volumes throughout the day, current throughput times, and infrastructure utilisation. Furthermore, it provides an overall assessment of process performance.

This innovation from allivate has been made possible through comprehensive data from numerous company systems, combined with the expertise of airport operator Fraport and IT firm DAKOSY, mentions the official release.

allivate is a partnership dedicated to developing innovative air freight processes in conjunction with customers, with a focus on digitalising and automating existing operations through the cargo community system. allivate's cargo community system supports over 1,100 companies in executing innovative, consistent, and secure air freight processes.

“The Cargo Dashboard supplies at-a-glance information about the entire process chain to all participants. This includes distribution of cargo volumes across the day, current throughput times, infrastructure utilisation, as well as the overall process performance. The system allows bottlenecks to be identified and for resources to be more efficiently allocated. It also provides customers with reliable insights into performance,” states Schikorr.

The user-friendly dashboard will be integrated into the existing FAIR@Link platform within the digital Cargo Community System. It will provide cargo community decision-makers with valuable insights into current on-site process quality and efficiency, the release added.
