China Airlines, Morrison Express sign deal on SAF
First time a Taiwanese carrier has partnered with a corporate client on the use of SAF
China Airlines announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with Morrison Express, a global freight forwarder based in Taiwan.
The signing of the MoU by Eddy Liu, Senior Vice President, China Airlines and Vincent Kao, Corporate Vice President, Morrison Express marked the first time a Taiwanese carrier has partnered with a corporate client on the use of SAF, according to an official release from China Airlines.
“The sharing of carbon reductions between China Airlines and its clients will reduce both the direct carbon emissions from air transport and also reduce the carbon footprint from transporting passengers and cargo.”
China Airlines launched the SAF partnership programme for upstream and downstream vendors as well as customers this year, the release added. The programme aims to realise a sustainable supply chain by promoting energy transition and the development of low-carbon transportation in the Taiwanese airline industry. Morrison Express became the first company to join the programme, and support the use of SAF by the China Airlines freighter fleet. The SAF used for the new partnership produces 80 percent less carbon emissions than conventional fuel, the release added.
