February 13, 2018: United Parcel Service (UPS) has ramped up its smart global ‘lovegistics’ network to deliver about 88 million flowers for US consumers during the Valentine’s Day.

UPS is expected to transport over eight million pounds of flowers to the US in 64 Boeing 767 wide-body twin-engine jet airliner by February 14.

In a bid to ensure flowers are delivered fresh, UPS will transport shipments from colorful flower growing fields in Latin American countries through the Miami International Airport (MIA).

“We have ensured delivery at the speed of ‘love-at-first-sight’,” said Frank Diaz, global marketing manager of UPS Americas Region.

“This is why we accelerated our operations to move over 514,000 boxes of flowers. We help love to bloom seriously,” said Diaz.

As flowers will be transported from the field to consumers, the shipment will be carefully transported in temperature-controlled aircrafts and trucks. Once shipments arrive at the UPS facility at MIA, it will be moved into a refrigerated warehouse where the dimension of the cooler is akin to the size of five basketball courts.

“For years, UPS has helped us spread love to our customers across the country. It has also ensured that we received our flower shipments on time, and got them delivered in the hands of our sweethearts,” said Galo Sanchez, executive vice president of The Elite Flower.

“As one of the largest privately-owned flower farms in Colombia, we depend on a reliable logistics partner to ship millions of blooms during this important day,” said Sanchez.

According to the National Retail Federation of US, consumers are expected to spend about $19.6 billion on Valentine’s gifts, up from $18.2 billion compared to last year. Interestingly, over 10 percent ($2 billion) of the entire spend come from flowers.
