Jan 16, 2017: A Boeing 747 freighter belonging to Istanbul based ACT Airlines has crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing at least 37 people, most of them on the ground, according to recent news reports.
According to the reports, the aircraft, flying from Hong Kong, crashed as it was landing amid fog at Manas airport, about 25km (15 miles) north of the capital, Bishkek.
Flight TK6491 was to have stopped at Manas en route to Istanbul in Turkey.
Turkish Airlines tweeted about this incident saying, “A cargo flight with TC-MCL registration number, operated by ACT Airlines, departed from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Bishkek Manas International Airport (FRU) had an accident near Bishkek at around 01:40 UTC.
"Please kindly be informed that, neither the aircraft nor the crew are members of Turkish Airlines.”
