MIA to kick off new Hong Kong-Miami air cargo service from April

Southern Air to start weekly all-cargo service at MIA from April 1

March 30, 2018: From April 1, Southern Air will begin its weekly all-cargo service using Boeing B777F freighters, at the Miami International Airport (MIA), from Hong Kong via Anchorage.

Hong Kong is MIA’s fourth-leading trade market in Asia, which generates over $500 million revenue in air freight, annually. In 2017, MIA’s trade with the entire Asian region stood at $7.8 billion, up by 16 percent increase, compared to $6.7 billion in 2016.

“We are thrilled to add Southern Air in our growing route network in Asia. As the busiest US airport for international freight, it’s gratifying to welcome additional cargo service from Hong Kong, which is the world’s busiest freight airport, said Lester Sola, aviation director, Miami-Dade Aviation.

Southern Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide, is the sixth airline at MIA with all-cargo service from Asia, It will join Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Korean Air, and Polar Air.
