Cargo volume declines, passenger traffic hits record at PANYNJ in July 2016

Sept 22, 2016: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) administered airports see region’s total cargo activity experience its sixth monthly decline of 2016 as it inched into negative territory.

In June, it saw a modest rebound of 1 percent.

While domestic freight activity decreased 1.5 percent, international cargo, which accounts for approximately 65 percent of the region’s total freight movement, grew by 0.4 percent and thus helped keep July’s fall to a mere 0.3 percent.

The administered airports set record in passenger traffic as it reached an all-time July high of 12.1 million passengers – a gain of 102,000 travelers compared to July 2015.

The international sector led the growth with a 4 percent gain and set a new record of 4.7 million passengers. Domestic traffic fell by 1.1 percent – the first monthly decline since February 2014.
