The Hong Kong-based airline carried 35,529 tons in a single month, surpassing a mark established in October last year. EADS expects orders for its Airbus A350 to rise significantly before year-end, but he declined to say it would hit the company's 200 target. Emirates Airline announced firm orders for 42 Boeing 777 aircraft, to be powered by GE90 jet engines, in a deal worth Dhs 35.7 billion (US$9.7 billion) at list prices. This is the largest-ever order for the Boeing 777 family of aircraft and consists of: 24 Boeing 777-300ERs, 10 777-200LR Worldliners and eight 777 Freighters, with the first aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2007. Emirates posted a 7 percent increase in first-half net profit as growth in passenger and cargo traffic offset surging fuel costs. The airline said in a statement it had made a profit of 922 million dirhams (USD$251 million) for the first six months of the financial year that started April 1. Embraer, the world's fourth-largest maker of commercial aircraft, said its profit fell 78 percent in the third quarter after a strong local currency hurt its bottom line. Evergreen Group, Taiwan's largest transport conglomerate is considering buying either Airbus A320s or Boeing 737s to replace 13 MD-90s, an executive said recently. Finnair has signed a code-sharing deal with Japan Airlines for domestic routes in Japan and Finnair's European flights.
