Carsten Spohr was born on 16 December 1966
in Wanne-Eickel. After obtaining a degree
in industrial engineering at Karlsruhe University,
he qualified on the Lufthansa flight training
course with a commercial airline pilots
licence. Subsequently, in 1994, he completed
a management training course at Deutsche
Aerospace AG, Munich.
In October 1994, Carsten Spohr returned
to Lufthansa, initially in charge of Recruiting.
From 1995 to 1998, he was personal assistant
to the then CEO and Chairman of Lufthansa,
Jürgen Weber, prior to assuming responsibility
in August 1998 for Lufthansas partnerships
in Europe as Head of Regional Partner Management.
In February 2000, he became Vice President
Alliance with the responsibility for managing
and coordinating Lufthansa cooperation partners
worldwide, including the Star Alliance and
regional partners. Additionally, in July
2003, he assumed responsibility for Lufthansa
passenger business strategy and airline
holdings.
In October 2004, Carsten Spohr was appointed
to the Management Board of Lufthansa Passenger
Airlines. In that capacity, he was responsible
for cabin crews, hub management and human
resources at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines.
The Supervisory Board of Lufthansa Cargo
AG appointed Carsten Spohr, effective 15
January 2007, CEO and Chairman of Lufthansa
Cargo AG.
